An exhibition of paintings by Kerry Landon-Lane
19 Man and His City 5’x4’. 3500
“The presence and behavior of people actually create the architecture, and that the structures and buildings are simply the response. Floors, walls, doors and windows house the architecture that is already there”
— Kerry Landon-Lane
THE PAINTINGS are about people and the spaces they create by their behaviors and social interactions. Landon-Lane takes the New York High Line as the setting to offer a different perspective of ourselves and our world.
12 Photo Shoot 4’x3’. 2100
The characters play their parts and create a stage, a space — and architecture
EVEN INDIVIDUAL BODIES CREATE THEIR OWN ARCHITECTURE, by how they move, stand and sit. A back becomes a wall, outstretched arms a room, and a pointed finger perhaps a door or a window. These identifiable spaces, each with their own characters of openness, closure, direction, scale and intensity, are the phases that become sentences, brush strokes that become paintings, sounds that become music, foot steps that become dance, words that become poetry, and spaces that become architecture.
By understanding and grasping the basic spacial parts, the artist (and critic) in all of us, may begin to play with space — to play with architecture. Architecture is an ever changing event that moves with us — our presence and actions. Like a wave to a surfer, it may be felt, handled, experienced and enjoyed — not just observed.
22 Talking Couple 4’x3’. 2100
The adjacent buildings pay homage to the architecture created by the conversation
21 Man and Building 5’x4’. 3500

The new plants are tendered and the buildings cradle the scene
18 The Family 5’x4’. 3500

16 The Runner 4’x3’. 2400
Their paths (and spaces) intersect and the vegetation shoulder for alliances
15 People Below 5’x4’. 3500
The building is the authority of the space and cowers the people. The plant resists.

The I-Phone camera creates the behavior and the space
Kerry Landon-Lane shows architecture not as in buildings but as it exists out there in our landscape. In the ridges, ravines and rivers. The rocks and earth provide the hard stuff and define the brash nature of spaces created!
